Sustainability has been a buzz-word in our industry for a long time and means many different things depending on the client, the firm and the user.
This informative luncheon program will introduce the many changes currently underway with the USGBC’s LEED Accreditation (including one for marketers and business developers!) and Certification programs and the lesser-known Federal program for Energy Star Certification. In addition, you will hear directly from an end user about the motivation to seek sustainable solutions and LEED Certification for future facilities within their program.
Our panel discussion will be moderated by Ben Taube with Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance (SEEA) and includes David Freedman with the USGBC to discuss the extensive changes related to LEED Certification with the introduction of LEED v3.0 and new accreditation designations. These changes will affect you, your firm, and dependent on legislation, most clients and prospects on your radar. Beth Fore will discuss Energy Star Certification which targets bottom-line energy savings that your clients and prospects are, or soon will be asking for. Also, a client representative will discuss motivation behind and trends in procurement of public projects with sustainability requirements.

He serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of the Atlanta Branch of the U.S. Green Building Council, is a member of the State Facilities Energy Council, is Past President and a Board Member of the Georgia Association of State Facilities Administrators, and Past President of the Association of Conservation Engineers.
Jason A. Lewis
Jason is the founding member of many LLC’s that have developed projects in the commercial, residential, and industrial arenas. His experiences as owner, developer, contractor, and manager have given him a unique perspective into what “Green” means to not only the construction process, but to the bottom line as well.
Having had the opportunity to direct such a wide spectrum of projects, Jason has learned that the market resists change of any kind, especially changes in methodology or best practices. For this reason, each project has served as a case study for Jason in that he has traveled the world in search of the specific ways and means to cost effectively implement changes and improve operational efficiencies.
Through his latest venture, Encompass America, Inc., Jason is currently working with industry leaders to provide a series of case studies showing scalable solutions that work in a variety of building environments and applications.
Recently Jason stated that “The push for Green Initiatives will never really reach its full potential until the marketplace as a whole understands the relationship between total first costs and total life cycle costs; and until these costs can be brought in line to reflect the true affordability of the improved efficiencies”.
Jason is married to his wife Robyn. They have two young daughters that are 5 and 3. He is a member and past Deacon of the Smyrna First Baptist Church, is a life member of the Gideon’s International, was a founding member of the Taylor-Brawner Foundation, served on the Core Team of the Livable Communities Initiative. He is a past member of the Southern Living Custom Home Builder Program as well as both the National and State Homebuilders Associations. He is qualified but inactive as a licensed General Contractor in Florida, and has numerous other credentials and certifications. He is a member of the US Green Building Council where he has achieved the LEED Accredited Professional designation and is currently pursuing additional LEED ratings within the USGBC.
SMPS Atlanta Sending Care Packages to Iraq
Get out your recipe books—or favorite frozen cookie dough. For the November 17th SMPS lunch program, we will be collecting homemade cookies for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Gulf Region Division (GRD). The GRD is comprised of Civilians, Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Contractors. They provide quality and sustainable engineering in support of civil/military construction in Iraq. Please bring cookies in double zip lock, quart size bags and label each bag with the cookie type. Bar cookies and brownies tend to pack the best. This is the best time of year to ship cookies, as they won’t melt. The men and women of the GRD are begging for homemade cookies, a taste of home! Click here for more information on the GRD.
For more information on the SMPS Atlanta care package program, please contact Beth Harris at MBP, bharris@mbpce.com or 404-869-6301.
